Sometimes Bigger is Better
Project Goals:
- The homeowners loved their home location and wanted to improve their forever home with a much needed kitchen expansion.
- One of the main goals was to incorporate a much larger and usable island where the family could sit and gather.
- The homeowners eventually wanted to add a sunroom but was going to be a project started down the road, as the design of the kitchen started, it became apparent that incorporating both together would be beneficial for design and costs.
- The goal for the sunroom was to create a space to relax, enjoy the outdoors without the bother of mosquitos and too much sun.

Project Overview
This kitchen expansion or kitchen addition in Okemos involved expanding the kitchen out the back of the home by 8' to provide space for a larger kitchen with a much larger island. This expansion also provided a space to add a door to the new covered deck or sunroom space. The kitchen addition included a new box-bay window at the kitchen sink. The cabinets were all updated with new white out with a clear vanilla wash by Pioneer Cabinets in the Sandborn cabinet door style. The new kitchen farmhouse single basin sink by Karran paired with the Delta faucets at both the main kitchen sink and the bar sink. The countertops are Cambria Warwick quartz countertops and the flooring was added to match the existing Chelsea Plank flooring and then refinished throughout to ensure that it matched. We also installed new Pella Lifestyle series windows in the bedroom above the expansion and in the kitchen window. In the sunroom, we installed new Trex Composite decking as well as Trex steps out of the sunroom and the back sliding door of the kitchen. For the sunroom ceiling and accent wall, we installed pine tongue and groove planks as well as a larger ceiling fan and electrical radiant heaters to provide comfort longer in the season.
